Useful, but overpriced

Everything in this book should have been included in the first. What's here isn't worth the $50 price tag.
To get a decent page count, the author filled pages with bigger than needed pictures. Some pages had only a single paragraph. Rather than take a picture of a component on the "right" side of the machine, he just used a picture already used (say of the "left" component). Some fixtures were absurdly complex -- why CNC cut a four sided box when a 2 gang electrical box will work as good or better?
The information contained therein is useful -- the wire management chain for one, setting up limit switches for another. It's just that with some searching, you can find most info on the internet for free.
I bought the book; I'm not going to throw it away. It's just overpriced.

However, this book is different from the others in that it was written by professional writers who wrote regularly for The New York Times. The quality of the writing is superior. It also does not bore the non-chess players who are likely to be reading this book. It does not contain technical variations that were not played in the actual games. It was only because his results showed that he was clearly the strongest player in the world that Lt. Col. Edmondson, President of the United States Chess Federation, and Max Euwe, President of the World Chess Federation ("FIDE"), went to extraordinary lengths to get him to play. Meanwhile, the rest of us who knew Fischer watched from the sidelines, feeling almost certain that Fischer would not sit down to play, or if he did start the match he would never complete the schedule. We were proven wrong and they were proven right. Included in this reprint is a new introduction and all moves of the twenty games actually played.

About the Author
RICHARD ROBERTS is a professional editor at The New York Times and amateur (in alphabetical order) astronomer, French horn player, herpetologist, naturalist, ornithologist, pianist and sailor. And - oh yes - chess player. He is also the president of the Long Island Environmental Council and the owner of a beard born in 1948 when he was a student at the Sorbonne. In his spare time he hunts mushrooms, makes wine and writes books one of them being The Collier Quick and Easy Guide to Chess. HAROLD C. SCHONBERG, the senior music critic at The Times, is a prolific author and an enthusiastic chess player. AL HOROWITZ-whose by-line has also appeared on myriad books as L A. Horowitz - was for many years the chess columnist for The New York Times. He is an international master and a winner of the U. S. Open chess tournament. SAMUEL RESHEVSKY is an international grandmaster, many times holder of the U.S. Chess championship, the chess columnist for The New York Times and a frequent competitor in top-level international play. A child prodigy, he was the only U. S. chess player to compete for the world championship in a special tournament organized after the death of Alexander Alekhine in 1946. He is considered one of the world's foremost analysts.

Bou Meng was save, after weeks of torture, because he was an artist. Tuol Sleng has been converted into a Museum of Genocide, and its lower floors are filled with hundreds of portraits of victims, taken at the moment they arrived. Bou Meng visits from time to time and when he does he is surrounded by the images of ghosts. As he talks, standing in front of a panel of portraits, his face becomes one of them, stunned and questioning. 'They all died', he said. 'Among them only I am alive.' His survival, when almost every one of the prisoners died, seems still to be too much to comprehend. Bou Meng's story offers a rare and valuable glimpse into a world of savagery and into the life of a seemingly ordinary man who survived an extraordinary fate."

A Touching and Informative Book of the Atrocities of Khmer Rouge

I purchased this book while visiting S-21 prison in Phnom Penh . Bou Meng was at the prison where he had been tortured years earlier, and selling his book. He seemed like a gentle and peaceful soul. I read his book the following day and it is a sad and touching account of the atrocities of Pol Pot. A very informative account of crimes against humanity.

I met Bou Meng at S21

I admit I have not read this book yet; but I will begin tonight. I had to finish reading [...] first. Bou Meng was outside S21 selling the book and I passed while leaving after having toured and photographed the entire complex. To witness the horrific and senseless suffering of these gentle and smiling people, then meet this man and have him sign my book, was incredibly humbling. I felt great honor as they motioned me around the table to pose for a photograph with Bou Meng. And he smiles... You can see it in my eyes - I was blown away in more ways than one. I will add another review or edit this one after reading, I think I will finish it in a week or two at my slow pace.

I too met Bou Meng, but with a group of Overseas Adventure Travel tourists. Purchasing the book, I read it and find it seems like an honest telling of the story of one man who went to the edge of death the Khmer Rouge created.

So...as you can probably figure out from the rest of the reviews, this is the Gummere translation, which even I as a non-English-scholar can tell isn't the best translation.

BUT there are three different free versions of Beowulf on the kindle, and I'm actually writing this review to sort them all out. (which is why may be too generous in giving stars). First there is this unloved version by Gummere. It's just the poem with no frills or dazzles, and the notes that are there are properly end-noted and linked.

Then there is a translation by Lesslie Hall: Beowulf: An Anglo-Saxon Epic Poem, which is quite good--but the formatting is...a challenge. All the side-notes and foot-notes are left in the text, which isn't formatted into a poem anyway, so if you just want to read the poem (like I did), well, good luck to you. It also has a bunch of informative things at the beginning; a discussion of the translation, character list, glossary, things like that.

The last version is a translation by William Morris and A.J. Wyatt: The Tale of Beowulf Sometime King of the Folk of the Weder Geats. It has some informative things at the beginning and end, is formatted properly as a poem (though it seems to lack any in-text notes) and um... I haven't tried to read it yet, so I can't say how good or bad the translation is.

Anyway, I hope this has all been helpful and informative and that you find the version of Beowulf that is right for you.

Not the Seamus Heaney Translation!

Despite the fact that this Kindle book advertises itself as the Seamus Heaney translation of "Beowulf" with illustrations by John D. Niles, it is in fact the Grummere translation (without illustrations). This is another example of misleading advertising for Kindle books.

Almost Awesome

Curves for an Alpha Wolf is a short story, not novella or a novellete or even a serial. It's a good little short-story, but that's all it is. Do not pick this up thinking you'll be getting a full novel. While this short-story has a few faults, I'd hate to get to see it slammed for not being a novel or a novella. So author, please put in your blurb information about the length, so that readers fully understand what product they're buying.

That aside, there is a lot I liked about this little short-story.

1. The Prose

So many PNR BBW's are frankly lackluster on the prose end of things. They come across as laughable and just bad. The actual writing in Curves for the Alpha Wolf, was really really enjoyable. While there were the obligatory cliche turns of phrase that made me roll my eyes, they were made better by the clean execution of genre tropes. The MC's voice in particular was a stand-out. While, again, she fell into all the cliche's -- a BBW insecure about her weight-- they were made believable by the voice.

2. The Mythology
I loved the idea that she turned into her dog, because that's who she was close to. I also loved the scene where her alpha picked her up from the pound. I loved the "alpha growl".

3. Jason
I like how Jason took charge and while he never forced the issue, he got pretty close. That might not be to everyone's taste but it was to mine for sure.

That said this short story had some pretty shoddy pacing. The whole story feels like the final scene of the novel, with the author telling us about all the previous chapters that happened before instead of showing us. In the end this lead to emotional beats falling flat and the whole thing feeling very rushed.

That said it was really really hot, and I enjoyed it.

Not worth the price

Here is a synopsis (spoiler alert coming) to save you from buying this book. The heroine is a member of a pack. As she hasn't changed into a wolf (and has beef with the head lady wolf), she is cast out of the pack to live as human. When she changes, she changes into a dog and not a wolf because she is closer to her dog that the pack. She has always had a crush on the alpha who has a crush on her. To keep her human, the alpha forces her (coerces her?) to sleep with him. That's it. Save the money and buy something else.

Too short!

now here is an author in which I wouldn't mind paying more for book. this was too short for me. 30 min tops. but it was really really good. I don't think ill purchase anything else from ms. knox unless she gives more details in her stories. the alpha goes for his mate who is a dog and mates with her. she turns into werewolf and when she turned she was of course attacked by another jealous bitch whom she kills and they live happily ever after.
