Thorough, not complete.

After only 29 pages I found myself constantly asking "what is that, and when did the author define it?". Additionally, there are enough oddly worded sentences that I am unable to follow what is being said. Perhaps I am not the intended audience for the book, but since Sulkin did not include a forward, I can't tell. I am trying to use this as an initial guide to PBX, and find it lacking enought that I am now looking for another book.

Good overview of the world of voice communications

This book is a bit outdated since it is from the last decade but it met most of my objectives since I wanted to learn more about the fundamentals of voice communications including: PSTN, ISDN, PBXs, etc.

This is not a introductory book for novices.

I felt that this book was not proofread enough, i.e. the editors were not thorough enough as I did find quite a few errors: duplicate sentences, typos, o instead of 0, etc.

Great book that details the ins and outs of FEA with getting bogged down on too much theory

This book explains what is going on in FEA in a manner that I found easy to read andf understand. The theory is at a minimum which is great as There a tons of books out there that detail the maths and the would put you to sleep . I bought this to refresh and build upon the knowledge that I had imparted to me in colloge. The Software I learned on has become more friendlier so I needed to know what I should be doing when doing FEA and where that I need to worry about. When FEA is used there a lot of areas that can be screwed up. its like dark art, with a dab of science and some luck, if you dont have the knowledge or experience you could be in serious doo doo quick.
So this explained the areas I needed to pay attention to

Great for Managers

If you are an engineer, skip it and do real work. It is general, basic, and lacks real knowledge. This is not a reference book, nor is it a teaching book. However, if you are an engineering manager overseeing a group conducing FEA analysis, this book will help you. It is full of wonderful insight, such as: "FEA can help build a better, more robust product". These blinding flashes of the obvious will keep most real engineers at arm's length. If I had a chance to do it again, I would not purchase this book.

Great Book for a FEA Beginner

The other reviews have said it all.
After graduating from college as a Mechanical Engineer, I was hired to do FEA in a very large company. We hadn't covered FEA at all during my undergraduate courses. I needed to learn what FEA was about pronto.
The book was great reading from first page to last. Minimal math, great explanation of concepts . It won't step you through how to do it in Pro-E or I-DEAS, but will give you the understanding you need to figure out your CAD package.

Section 2 is involved with flight training for student pilots and includes preparation for flight, flying techniques, navigation, emerging procedures and actions after flight. Section 3 is concerned with ground studies, including information on landowner relations, the art of retrieving, how to become an observer, balloon maintance and general safety. Section 4 covers the theory relevant to the PPL written examination papers and also subjects of interest to crew and observers such as propone handling and navigation.

A practical and highly entertaining read for all types and levels of negotiators

Negotiation Mastery by Simon Horton, an experienced negotiation teacher and consultant, is a practical and highly entertaining read whether you are a career negotiator or just wish your skills were a little stronger. In his decade-long career, he has helped hostage negotiators, law firms, financial institutions, and students from the graduate level through the boardroom improve their confidence and outcomes as they enter negotiations.

Part of what makes the book such an easy read are the interesting cases he uses to illustrate his points and make them stick in the memory. Simon is clearly well read and a student of both history and modern politics as evidenced by his examples. There is humor sprinkled throughout: for instance - according to the figures from a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission report released in 1997, you are 20 times more likely to be involved in an accident with an air freshener than you are to suffer an injury from a shark attack. You'll have to trust me that the example makes a good point in the context of the book.

Simon has balanced the traditional messages around body language, preparation, power and alternative outcomes with a focus on getting the other party (or parties) to a win-win mindset. In today's competitive business landscape, our own ability to succeed is closely linked to the success of the people and companies we work with. In order to maximize everyone's benefits, we have to negotiate terms that will also be executed according to the spirit in which they were agreed upon and contracted. Otherwise, as Simon reminds us, you may be satisfied with your how your demands were received, but once you aren't looking that waiter is going to spit in your soup. It is all in the execution.

When we tie the core message of the book to the challenges we face in procurement today, I think of how often I hear that `negotiation skills are no longer enough'. Procurement's role in the organization has expanded such that we also need strong internal marketing and communication skills, operational finance knowledge, and strong strategic planning capabilities. But no one is saying that negotiation skills are no longer needed - in fact they are now assumed to be part of the core abilities of any successful procurement professional. We need those skills for our interactions with suppliers, executives, and stakeholders - so if you feel your skills could use a little brushing up and some structure to lean on, I highly recommend ordering a copy of Negotiation Mastery.

Depth and breadth - something for everyone

This is my kind of book, in that I could easily find and dip into the aspects of negotiation where I needed most help. That's not to say the whole book wasn't worth reading - it certainly was. The punchy pace and light style belies the depth and breadth of the content. Stories, anecdotes and humour brought valuable messages and practical tips to life. Something for everyone who has to deal with other people to achieve results at work, home or anywhere else.

What a Great book to Read on Jewelry

Always had a love for reading about who and what happened to a great piece of jewelry, the historical value and the owners that had to have the piece. Interestingly enough jewelry is the one thing that when made well and has a great value is never going to go out of style. This book gives you a historical view on the piece of jewelry and reason why it was so sought after. If not for anything, it is an interesting read for any one who is interested in not only the piece of jewelry, but the historical value behind it. A must for anyone who loves looking and owning a great piece of jewelry or even imagining it is great.

Aside from the actual content, the physical copy of this book is just beautiful. I had never seen any book designed in the way this one is. Every couple pages would be white text on black paper and different illustration done in purely black and white. So interesting and cool.

Now to the even more beautiful content. It took me a while to read this one; not necessarily because it was long, because it wasn’t, it was just so much. Not only is the writing heart-wrenching, it actually makes you feel vulnerable as you read it. That was my experience, anyway. In a recent Instagram post, R.M. Drake stated that this book was dedicated to a late friend of his. You really do feel the love bleeding from his sentences as you read this masterpiece. It’s just so pure, honest, and raw. He writes about life and love so delicately, yet so bluntly. It almost makes you feel as if you should just be living for more.

I love everything that I’ve read from R.M. Drake so far, and I don’t think I’ll be stopping any time soon. - Bianca B.

If you love R.M. Drake, this book is a must! Love it!!

So happy I purchased this book! I love reading all his posts on Instagram and thought it would be nice to not only support his work but have a hard copy to read whenever I'd like. I truly enjoyed reading every page! R.M. Drake uses his words in a way that really speaks to his readers. I also like the artwork one each page and it helps showcase the creative work from others.

If you already like his work from seeing it on social media forums, definitely get this book. You won't be disappointed!

A lovely investigation of current theories of Consciousness

This book is a highly accessible investigation of current theories in physics, neuroscience and psi research that all point to consciousness being intrinsic to the universe. The author makes complex ideas readily understandable and shows how research is moving the concept of consciousness from an epiphenomenon to being core to the nature of reality.
A must read for anyone interested in consciousness and the nature of reality.

You Just Might Adopt a New Worldview...

This book was a joy to read. Much like Brian Greene has brought theoretical physics and string theory to the layperson, Nelson has taken a very difficult topic and presented it in a way that can be easily understood by everyone. In fact, this will be the first book I recommend to anyone who wants to start exploring the science and philosophy of consciousness more deeply. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different research efforts that have been conducted to explore mind-matter interaction. One can't help but feel a bit humbled by the staggering intellect and perseverance that so many great thinkers have put into the search for answers.

Read this book, if anything because it is extremely well written, articulate, and insightful.

The State of Consciouness Research

In this book Adrian Nelson presents evidence suggesting that a paradigm shift in our understanding of the natural sciences and their relationship to consciousness may be beginning. A paradigm shift occurs when some scientists believe that the current scientific explanations leave important questions unanswered, and begin to propose ideas and do experiments which challenge the assumptions underlying the status quo.
The current belief held by many physicists, biologists, and psychologists that consciousness is illusory or merely produced by activity in the brain is being challenged by the ideas of "indeterminacy" and "entanglements" found in Quantum Physics. The movement away from a deterministic universe is being supported by studies and experiments such as "Integrated Information Theory, IIT" "Orchestrated Objective Reduction, Orch-OR" mind-matter interactions using Random Event Generators to measure collective consciousness, and "Psi research" into an individual's psychic experiences.
The book is anecdotal in style. While it summarizes the theories mentioned above. the information included, other than "impressive results" from up-to-date experiments, does not promote understanding. However, it does provide a snapshot of the current state of consciousness research in 2015.

New Insights into a Musical Culture

A study of women musicians in Uzbekistan makes a very narrow and exotic book, but author and musician Tanya Merchant offers a well-written, detailed, and insightful story that keeps the reader fascinated. Uzbekistan, as other Central Asian nations, was during the Soviet and Cold War era a poorly known backwater, but since its independence and Western interests in nearby Afghanistan, the nation has become politically interesting and a destination for Silk Road adventure tourism. Also, through the Aga Khan Trust and the Smithsonian Institution, recordings and international touring groups have brought Central Asian music to the world music fan. With centuries of traditional Islamic practices, despite Soviet modernization, women musicians have separate roles and venues. The focus on women musicians before, during, and after the Soviet era in artistic maqom, Western classical, traditional and arranged folk, and popular categories expands an appreciation of this culture.

Merchant, who speaks Russian, learned to play the dutar, a two silk-stringed long-neck lute, and to sing from two Uzbeki women. She acquired the rhythmic patterns and studied maqams, the set of modes or scales applied to a canon of melodies. She took part in wedding rituals and women only celebrations and interviewed many Uzbeki women for their background, training, and musical experience. Among the information discussed in the book, the reader learns that women play the dutar and rarely the chang hammered dulcimer or Kashgari rubob lute, while men can play any instrument including the dutar. Women are chiefly vocalists and perform with ethnic costume, always dresses, in contrast to men instrumentalists whose attire is Western. In Uzbeki culture a female is a girl no matter her age until married, when she become a woman. The Soviets encouraged more women in institutional music training, both conservatories and academies, but also created a pan-Soviet folkloric musical style with modified folk instruments and harmonies, which are otherwise outside traditional practice. It was particularly interesting to learn that women are very popular Pop stars but that their band's music, despite electric guitars, drumset, synthesizers, and assorted Arabic and Turkish idioms and instruments, are not global rock; patriotic and romantic tunes are favored. These musicians were conservatory trained. In contrast to oral transmission by mimicking methods for traditional music, the academies teach by Western approaches of scores. Indeed, women have become directors of Western-style orchestras performing symphonies, concerti, and ballets whose composers are mainly Western. The traditional maqom canon was developed solely by men, probably an artifact of male domination in the culture, as it was in the West until the more enlightened late 20th century, when women composers began winning the Pulitzer Prize and other honors.

Women musicians are important in Uzekistan despite the obligated restrictions. Their strong vocals, whether artistic maqoms or pop or folkloric opera, are key to musical performances. The virtuosic dutar playing are admired. Women are not secluded at home or playing only for themselves or for family occasions of weddings and circumcisions. This book provides a broader picture. They only omission is religious and devotional music. Women Sufis are found in Uzbekistan. In short, a good, worthwhile read for ethnomusicologists and world music fans.
