An essential resource

True alchemists are a rarity in our modern world, and even more rarely are they present in the public eye. With his first book, "Real Alchemy", and now this one, Bartlett provides us with knowledge that is hard to find yet absolutely essential for those of us curious about the ancient art of alchemy. If you have such a curiosity I HIGHLY recommend both of Bartlett's books.

Get The Way of the crucible if you want to learn

I have done spagyric work and have wanted to Get into the metal kingdom and this book realy opens the door to that.
If you have read Real alchemy or have the Alchemist handbook by frater Albertus then it would also be good to get this book, and some antimony aswell.
The way of the crucible takes out all the guess work and shows you in plain simple English but it can help to know what a green lion and a red Dragon are, if not the book will tell you.
If you are an alchemist or want to be then it would be wise to get this book.

As with his first book on practical alchemy, this book is non-pretentious and clearly worded. Bartlett is doing more to spread the word on Hermetic thought than anyone has for thousands of years. If you want to get your hands dirty and head down this path in earnest this book is pure gold.

Glorified FAQ on the basic household chemicals

I got this book because I wanted to learn more about cleaning products and particularly degreasers. This book has absolutely nothing on degreasers, even though there is a whole chapter on Garage chemicals.

The format of the book is like an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). It's not an encyclopedia of household products as you may suspect from the publishers description. It covers just the very basic products/chemicals and doesn't go in depth on anything in particular. There are no pictures or diagrams, just text.

I would not recommend this book. I'm still looking for a good book that covers a wide variety of household chemicals in detail.

About the Author
Paul Robichaux got his first computer at age 8 and quickly developed the bad habit of spending time with it instead of playing outside. Over his career, he eventually learned the value of exercise and the great outdoors, but he still spends an inordinate amount of time tinkering with computers and networks for his customers. Along the way, he’s worked as a software developer, instructor, and consultant, written several books, earned his pilot’s license, and started running triathlons. Paul was awarded the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for Exchange for 11 years running, and in 2014 he was inducted into the Exchange Hall of Fame. As a principal architect at Summit 7 Systems, Paul focuses on Office 365, Exchange Server, and Lync.

A structural engineer by education, Bhargav Shukla discovered his attraction to computers during his computer technology education at college. The choice was clear when he had to choose between a Masters in Civil Engineering and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification. The rest is a blur. Written for people who don't really have a lot of Exchange background, but, says it is written for it. Read about half of it before giving up on gaining anything useful, and went to the Inside-Out series, which gives information in a more X's and Y's format, vs here where it's almost as if someone was asked to talk about Exchange 2013. I tried to absorb something from this book to help me pass the 70-341, but, I don't think it really gave me anything I didn't already know.

About the Author

Ricardo F.�Crespo is Professor of Philosophy of Economics at IAE Business School, Universidad Austral, Argentina. He holds BA degrees in Economics and in Philosophy, as well as a doctorate in Philosophy (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina) and a PhD in Economics (Universiteit van Amsterdam). He teaches Philosophy of Economics at IAE Business School and at Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. Professor Crespo is a researcher at Argentina’s National Council of Scientific Research (CONICET) and has published numerous books, articles and papers in his field. His recent publications include articles in the Cambridge Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic Methodology, Foundations of Science, Journal of Applied Economics, Review of Social Economy and Synthese.

About the Author
Ma Thanegi was born in Myanmar and educated at the Methodist English High School, the State School of Fine Arts and the Institute of Economics. She is a painter who has exhibited with group shows since 1967 and has had several exhibitions of her own. She is a contributing editor at The Myanmar Times, an English language weekly, and editor of Enchanting Myanmar, a travel magazine. She is the author of The Illusion of Life: Burmese Marionettes, The Native Tourist: In Search of Turtles, Paw Oo Thet: His Life and Creativity, An Introduction to Myanmar Cuisine nad Inle: Blue Sea in the Shan Hills. She lives in Yangon, Myanmar.

About the photographer
Barry Broman is a retired American diplomat who received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Southeast Asian studies from the University of Washington. He worked as a photographer for the Associated Press in Southeast Asian and served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. He is the photographer of Irrawaddy: Benevolent River of Burma and Spiritual Abodes of Thailand and also produces documentary films on Asian subjects.

Outstanding thoughtful visionary fact filled analysis of the coming tsunami of change about to engulf the existing auto industry. And I'd you drive a car or truck for a job and are still 10 years (or more) from retirement read this book and then start planning your next career move

A useful, but incomplete and biased view of the future

First, before getting into any criticism, this book does a good job of covering the potential inherent in the shifts to automated vehicles and new vehicle propulsion systems. Mr. Neckermann identifies a large range of possible directions that may impact the way we drive.

The problem with the book is that it does not look particularly closely at the challenges inherent in this transformation. The author provides a biased view, going so far as to suggest that "automotive manufacturing is becoming as redundant as the horseshoe maker". The book includes long sections running through hosts of initiatives, prototypes, and start-ups, but the fact is that technology is the least concern in this transformation. We have had electric, hydrogen, and automated driving technologies for decades.

The challenge is how to deploy these technologies in a chaotic, unpredictable environment dominated by human beings. Comparisons with air travel are worse than useless; they are misleading. Cars do not operate in controlled spaces occupied by perhaps a dozen other craft, each operated by pairs of highly trained pilots, and maintained continuously by professional ground crews. Road traffic is an intensely human, social environment where the rules of the road often matter less than anticipating what other road users may do based on experience (see Traffic for an excellent analysis). Given that the average age of cars in use is more than 11 years, software-driven vehicles will have to co-exist for decades with hundreds of millions of human-driven machines and they will still have to protect occupants (and other road users) in the event of a collision. Automated cars will have to do massively better than Apple computers or Microsoft operating systems because they cannot be allowed to confuse drivers, freeze up, or become corrupted when lives are at stake, and they'll have to operate correctly for 10-20 years, not 2-3.

I agree that we will one day reach zero emissions, dramatically reduce accidents, and likely see big changes in how vehicles are owned and used, but this is at least a 50, not a five, year transition and no one today can really predict with much confidence how this shift will ultimately play out.

Lukas has a cogent and very insightful analysis of the coming age of autonomous vehicles. He explains that the gains to be made for all of us as the world moves toward robotically operated vehicles are multifold. We can expect the elimination of car accidents - and the horrible human and economic costs associated with them. Robotic cars will also eliminate emissions that choke our cities - since they will be highly-efficient, battery-operated cars. Finally, since they will be very rapidly summonable, there will be little need for the vast majority of consumers to bear the cost and hassle of automobile ownership. Pick the book up and be inspired looking forward to the future that awaits us all!
